Malaysia’s resent satellite launch and Indonesia’s SatKomHan plans at MilSatCom Asia - Pacific 2016

Space is becoming more apart of modern and political warfare and the current climate is rapidly evolving in Asia-Pacific. Last year Malaysia launched its MilSatCom satellite and Ministry of Defence Indonesia are planning and preparing SatKomHan - A satellite-based communications infrastructure for national security services.


SMi Group reports: Lieutenant Colonel Ilime Ibrahim, Programme   Manager, Ministry of Defence Malaysia and Thomas van der Heyden, Senior   Programme Advisor, SatKomHan Programme Office, Ministry of Defense of the   Republic of Indonesia will meet at the 6th annual MilSatCom Asia   Pacific event to discuss SatCom capabilities for effective military communications   across Asia-Pacific.

Lieutenant Colonel Ilime Ibrahim will be presenting on how Malaysians's MilSatCom   capabilities have been enhanced since the recent satellite launch.   Presentation topics will include:

• The key specifications and the current status of Malaysian satellite programmes

• How Malaysia’s first dedicated MilSatCom satellite will transform current capabilities

• Overcoming recent challenges to ensure effective strategic communications through the satellite

• The potential for regional cooperation to further develop capabilities

• To what extent will future requirements be shaped by current operations


Furthermore, Thomas van der Heyden will present his speech on Indonesia – stepping up to satellite based Net-Centric Warfare programme with SatKomHan

Presentation will focus on:


• SatKomHan - A satellite-based communications infrastructure which will deliver nationwide cyber secure interoperability across all Indonesian Homeland Security Services

• A review of the technical and operational drivers at the foundation of Indonesian Ministry of Defense’s new satellite programme

• A perspective on the enormous task of planning and building a total, end-to-end, space and ground segment, mobile satellite service for Indonesian homeland security
