Safaricom and Airtel Kenya have both started separate partnerships that will enable their subscribers to buy goods and services from merchants worldwide. Safaricom and I&M Bank have launched M-Pesa PrePay Safari Card, which is an international Visa card that will allow M-Pesa customers to transfer money from their accounts to a the Visa pre-paid card which can be used globally. Airtel, Standard Chartered Bank and MasterCard have partnered in providing payment services to users through their mobile phones using the Airtel 1time Shopping Card. The service is expected to be rolled out in Kenya and the rest of Africa allowing Airtel subscribers to make payments across the MasterCard network.
