With the advent of 3.5G networks and large format devices such as the iPhone it is only a matter of time before this becomes even more popular. I have personally witnessed the next generation of internet users with iPods, iPhones, and even BlackBerry devices all watching downloaded content on those tiny screens - along with headsets they tell me that they forget that they're looking at a small screen and the portability means they can stop the viewing in one place and re-start it (just like a book) in another.
Mobile Data Optimisation for mobile internet and mobile broadband (handsets and "AirCard" equipped Laptops, essentially) will help drive the adoption even higher as the end-user experience becomes better BUT at the same time, the Operator/Carrier saves money on delivery of that data (reduced need for uplink, backhaul and also the bandwidth needed in the first place due to data reduction on the 'net).
If "mom & dad" can purchase "safe" internet for their families then they'll spring for these new phones and services - and not just IPTV but the whole range of high density mobile content. Watch for the upcoming need for Parental Controls as the new "TV" is not in the sitting room any longer, but in Little Johnny or Little Sally's back pocket or lunch box.
