Radio Network Engineering, Australia
Design activities for Telstra’s 850MHz WCDMA network. This project was the first turnkey mobile radio rollout for Australia’s largest operator and was complex due to the short time frame and the need to concurrently upgrade and modify their existing GSM and CDMA networks. I worked closely with the customer, spending months on their premises to ensure design changes were acceptable and prepared design auditing tools to minimise rework and identify problems. My main activities included:
• Optimisation of 2G and 3G base station configurations.
• Creating Excel Visual Basic Macros to audit design information, import Node-B configurations into the planning tool for coverage prediction and help create network wide purchasing orders for equipment.
• Designing modifications to Telstra’s existing 2G CDMA network to accommodate WCDMA and in many cases share antennas.

• Developing, supporting and debugging my existing macro toolkit for mobile network clients and operators from previous contracts.
• Creating customised tools using Visual Basic scripts for remote clients. This included writing KPI analysis and graphing tools, neighbor cell optimisers, parameter consistency checks, report combiners, data mining tools and cell data production automators.
