Working as a Bahrain based freelance journalist, I write and broadcast for several international newspapers, websites and broadcasters including Arabian Magazines, Deutsche Welle, Radio Bahrain and The New Zealand Radio Network.
Based in Bahrain, I travel extensively throughout The Middle East, researching, writing and broadcasting on Middle Eastern current events, politics, culture, Palestine and the growing regional water crisis.
During the Iraq war in 2003 / 2004 I was invited to become a regular broadcaster / commentator for Saudi Arabian Radio. I now write (and broadcast) for several international newspapers, magazines, websites and broadcasters.
Over the past 12 months, in addition to regularly broadcast for Deutsche Welle International, Radio Bahrain and the New Zealand Radio Network; I have researched, written and produced several radio documentaries on behalf of Deutsche Welle and researched, written and presented television documentaries for a Middle Eastern 24 hour news channel.
In addition to writing, I frequently talk on the Middle East in public and private events and am regularly asked to broadcast commentary on current events for a number of smaller news radio stations and networks across the world. I have also researched, written and presented a number of television documentaries for a Middle Eastern 24 hour news channel.
Previous experience 2
Consultant - Technical Account Management - Bahrain and Middle East
Huawei Middle East
August 2010 – September 2012
Working on multiple Middle Eastern projects supporting Huawei’s local project teams, I was responsible for building and maintaining relationships with, CTO and board level managers for the company’s Middle Eastern clients.
I was also assigned as project manager to failing Huawei swap projects in Jordan and Lebanon to recover high risk projects and bring them back onto schedule and budget. The assignments included reassessment of working practices, project plans, tighter management of staff and subcontractors and improved communications and coordination with the clients.
Additionally, as the only radio frequency expertise for Huawei Middle East, I carried out nationwide surveys in Lebanon and Jordan identifying interference and recommending methodologies for 3G operators to mitigate interference.
Project director responsible for defining the engineering and technology budget and managing all network related capital and operational expenditure. Also responsible for the implementation and roll out of a replacement network across greater London, whilst maintaining service to customers.
As management and design authority for end to end network performance and engineering, I was responsible for all technical and engineering aspects of the WiMax network, I developed and introduced new methodologies to manage the network and our subscribers cost effectively.
Methodologies included statistical profiling of subscribers using demographic information, usage statistics, internet and network derived data and location specific information. The information was complemented with mathematical models and databases to profile, analysis and identify interference, and identify options to mitigate the effects upon the network in the most cost effective manner (based upon subscriber profiles). This lead to building further models to manage routing management and planning for network, national and international traffic; optimising for capacity, financial costs, traffic loading and performance.
Once the methodologies were in place I was able to better manage and forecast the procurement of local, national and international capacity, understand risks and margins for error and to have strategies in place to address differences between forecasted and actual requirements. Subsequently, I established and managed spectrum management, interference planning, capacity planning, performance and traffic management teams.
