In the run up to the International Datacloud Awards for Datacentre and Cloud hosted in Monaco on the eve of Datacloud Global Congress and Exhibition (2 June 2015) we are pleased to share with you a few comments from Lead Judge Gerd Simon.

Category: Datacentre End User Innovation

General description:
This award is open to all data centre providers, integrators, consultants, delivering an outstanding solution for an end-user in the enterprise market segment. Creativity and ideas are key ingredients of this solution but it requires a challenge to test the capabilities and knowledge delivering an impact. Innovation should address key trends in our market, especially cutting edge trends.

The solution will be judged on its ability to scale. The award recognizes the most impressive collaborative results which delivers nothing less than the outstanding and innovative solution impact during the past 12 to18 months. Innovation could be a technology, a product or business model.

This award reflects the challenges in our industry, delivering the benefits for our customers. That is why the award addresses the challenge from an enterprise end user point of view. The entries shall be submitted jointly (that is by supplier and user in partnership), and we expect an end user in the enterprise segment to team up with the lead innovator. The award will be given to the best team, both will receive their recognition.

Key Assessment Criteria:
Quantitative scores out of 5 possible points (5 highest) per criteria

Submissions for this award will be judged on:

  1. What were the key challenges during the implementation?
  2. What impacts were delivered on the end-user operation? Please state quantitative effects as well as qualitative effects? Demonstrate how you achieved the results.
  3. What makes the innovative solution market cutting-edge and therefore a leading one? How does the innovation differentiate and create an impact?
  4. What are the cumulated improvement results realized in short term (12 months back from the submission date) as well as projected mid-term (24 months ahead from the submission date) by the end-user in the enterprise segment, at least in terms of real savings or real improvements?

Q.Who should enter for this award & why?

This award is open to all data centre providers, integrators, consultants, delivering an outstanding solution for an end-user in the enterprise market segment. Innovation could be a technology, a product or business model. Having said that, we expect an end user in the enterprise segment to team up with the lead innovator. The award will be given to the best team, both will receive their recognition.

Q. What makes the Datacloud Awards so special?

This award reflects the challenges in our fast growing and demand driven industry, delivering benefits for customers.

That is why the award address the challenge from an enterprise end user point of view and not from a supplier one.

Q.  What are you most looking forward to as a judge?

It is about scalability. The solution will be judged on its ability to scale. Therefore, the award recognizes the most impressive collaborative results delivered in close collaboration between an enterprise and a supplier.

Q. Why do you feel industry awards are important to businesses?

As a matter of fact, it is very important that outstanding results are to be seen and to be recognized.

Awards shall inspire other enterprises to explore the potentials of innovations and challenge talents to find the best place to work.

Awards stimulate the collaboration and knowhow sharing within an enterprise segment. Last but not least, awards boost supplier´s sales too because prospects will achieve faster results based on the existing solutions developed.

Typically, innovation awards are product design or service awards, highlighting innovative features from a supplier point of view. Our innovation awards are different. Please, let me explain.

Innovations shall create benefits for users´ organizations when they are used, but what you see first is an investment in a project that shall monetarize.

Innovation does not happen overnight, preparation is needed. So, it needs a courageous enterprise end-user in a driver seat at least, that has the ability to defend the business case, deliver the results projected and show the impact to the top management. This requires someone with a vision, will and power to implement an innovation. Implementing an innovative solution in an enterprise is a special timeframe, often a 'once in a lifetime project' for such an individual.

Without such individuals, innovations would not be implemented. Having said that, we want to recognize those enterprises with their suppliers to talk about their innovations´ results, being seen as leaders in their respective markets.

Thank you for your great thoughts Gerd!
