Light Reading Publishes 2014 Telecom Industry Salary Survey

NEW YORK, July 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Light Reading (, the market-leading online community for the global communications sector, today announced the 2014 Telecom Industry Salary Survey. The report suggests that telecom industry employees are, in general, upbeat about their pay, current employment and future prospects.

Light Reading gathered survey data from more than 1,200 telecom industry professionals earlier this year, and found that 72% of respondents are satisfied with their current employer, while almost 70% expect to make more money next year.

Some of the highlights from the salary survey report, Light Reading's fourth, include:

  • 55% of respondents make more than $100,000 per year
  • 27% believe they are being paid above the average salary for their role and level of experience
  • Only 6% believe they will earn less money in 2015 compared with this year
  • NFV/SDN is not yet having an effect on most companies' recruitment policies, but many are still hiring 4G/LTE skills, albeit it at a slower rate than last year.
  • Google is, by far, the most admired company by people in the telecom industry.

"This survey has helped us take the pulse of the global telecom industry since 2010," says Sarah Reedy, Senior Editor, Light Reading, who managed the survey, analyzed the results and wrote the report. "Our survey respondents give us honest feedback on what's happening out there – what positions are getting pay increases, their thoughts on their employers, and how new technologies are affecting recruiting practices."
