- Innovative approach to IT and technology integration has enabled industry first innovation including tw telecom's Intelligent Network
LITTLETON, Colo., April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- tw telecom, (NASDAQ: TWTC), a leading provider of Business Ethernet and networking solutions, today announced its CTO and CIO Harold Teets has been named the Denver metro area's "Top CIO" by the Denver Business Journal. The achievement, part of the publication's C-Suite Awards announced yesterday in Denver, recognizes this year's top C-level executives as innovators, role models, standard-setters and leaders in the community.
"Harold plays a significant leadership role helping tw telecom execute an aggressive vision for its customers, its products and attracting a highly skilled and talented IT workforce," said tw telecom Chairman and CEO Larissa Herda. "In a city known as a hotbed for successful technology companies, I am proud to see Harold receive such a prestigious award."
"It is a great honor to be recognized among so many influential technology leaders across the Denver metro area," said Teets. "The caliber of talent up for this award is world class, and I am humbled and grateful to be named Top CIO by the Denver Business Journal. I could not have accomplished this without a strong executive leadership partnership and the talented team of technology professionals here at tw telecom."
Mr. Teets, a 35-year veteran in the technology and network communications fields, oversees the company's technology development, IT operations, network engineering, technology strategy, carrier relations and access management groups. Through his leadership, tw telecom has been able to build a single comprehensive platform of national capabilities enabling the company to deliver industry first innovation such as its Intelligent Network and Dynamic Capacity® bandwidth on demand services.
Mr. Teets was credited with recognizing a rapid convergence of IT and network services in the telecom industry. As a result, he had the vision to structure the company's technology organization in line with this trend, taking on the responsibility of CIO and CTO. The move not only kept the company in pace with a rapidly changing industry, it benefited it internally by breaking down silos, cross pollinating its employee skill set, and stimulating innovative thinking. As Teets and his team, in close collaboration with the company's product development and operations teams, created services that converged the two formerly separate disciplines, it also helped create new, innovative services that dynamically adapt to meet customers' business needs, capacity and prioritization.
"Ultimately, our company's vision is to create and deliver network services that adapt to our customers' business needs, without human intervention, with the ability to scale and flex as the customers' business need arises," added Teets. "This vision has revolutionized our company and is making a positive contribution to a rapidly changing telecom industry."
Teets has held executive level technology leadership roles with several industry leading companies throughout his career. In 2010, Teets was appointed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to its prestigious Technological Advisory Council (TAC). He was also identified as one of the 25 most influential people in telecom software in 2011. Mr. Teets earned his BS degree in computer science from LaSalle University.
