Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse (CPW) are closing all eleven UK branches just 18 months after a glitzy launch. While Informa analysts speculate the US firm didn't leverage its 50% stake in CPW effectively enough, I'm more interested in what this means for CPW itself.
The firm says it will incorporate much of the consumer electronics sold via Best Buy into its current stores. To my mind, that risks diluting the brand even further, turning the Warehouse into just another electronics retailer.
On the other hand, CPW now has the opportunity to become a consumer's one-stop-shop for all their connected devices - a 'connected home' Warehouse, if you will.
Just a thought.
