Growth in the adoption of mobile phones in the MENA region is growing faster than in Europe and North America combined.
 
The media sector has been identified as a strategic building block for sustainable post-petrochemical economies by several governments in the Middle East and North Africa, especially in the Gulf.

  • 284 million mobile subscribers at the end of Q1 2013
  • Middle East mobile growth was nearly twice the growth in Western Europe and North America combined in Q1 2013
  • Middle East mobile penetration of 109% exceeds USA (103%), APAC (100%) and the global average (90%)
  • Cisco forecasts Middle East mobile data traffic to grow 77% CAGR to 2017 – the highest growth for any region
  • Cisco also anticipates the Middle East and North Africa will experience the greatest average growth in mobile broadband speeds, with a 13-fold increase up to 2017. The region’s average mobile speed will reach nearly 3 Mbps
  • 72% of online consumers watch videos on their mobiles at least once a month and 37 per cent watch daily
  • Mobile Broadband penetration is growing strongly
